This Historic Tour takes you across Bhutan from Paro to Bumthang. In addition to sights in Paro, Punakha, and Thimphu, you will experience the heartland of this magical country. In Trongsa, you will visit the Trongsa Dzong, the most impressive fortress in Bhutan. The first two kings of Bhutan ruled from here. Our local guide in Bhutan will meet you at the airport and take you the short distance to your hotel. After tea, the group will enjoy a brief introduction and will meet their local team.
During this trip, you will visit several well known and historic temples, monuments and monasteries. Taktshang (Tiger's Nest) monastery, which clings to a Himalayan cliff, is perhaps the most well-known monastery in Bhutan. The National Memorial Chorten (1974) was built in honor of the late King Jigme Dorji Wangchuk. Simtokha Dzong is the oldest Dzong (temple) of Bhutan, built by Shabdrung in 1627. The Folk Heritage Museum and The Textile Museum are favorites for most tourists. Chimi Lhakhang Temple was built by Lama Drukpa Kuenley in the 15th Century. Punakha Dzong was built in 1637 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal and is situated between the Pho Chu “Male River" and Mo Chu “Female River.” Gyaltsen Pema Thinley, the grandson, and reincarnation of Pema Lingpa founded the temple in 1613, and Tenzin Legpai Dhendup, the second re-incarnation, built the temple.
Trongsa Dzong, the most impressive dzong in Bhutan, was built in its present form in 1644 by Chogyal Minjur Tempa. Lamey Goemba is a large palace and monastery that was built in the 18th century by Dasho Phuntsho Wangdi. Jambay Lhakhang was built by King Srongsen Gampo of Tibet in the year 1659. This Dzong presently houses a monastic school. This tour will give you a broad view of Bhutanese history, culture, its people, their lifestyle and traditions.
